Code of Conduct

Dance events are a shared space for us learn and socialise. This Code of Conduct is based on our community values and helps create a safe, respectful, and supportive environment.

Respect & Politeness: Show high regard and treat everyone with respect, regardless of background, identity, or ability. Everyone is invited to dance.

Leading & Following: Anyone can lead or follow. Choosing a role is based on preference, comfort, and mutual trust.

Practicing: Learning to dance takes time. Give yourself and others opportunities to repeat and practice. Ask what others need, share what helps you learn, explore using ‘can we..’ language.

Growth Mindset: Leading and following are equally important and challenging. Both roles always have room for growth.

Asking for a Dance: Verbally ask for a dance; an honest ‘no’ is welcome.

Enthusiastic Consent: Seek and respect ongoing consent when dancing. 

Boundaries: Verbally communicate and respect boundaries.

Unsolicited Advice: Always ask before offering feedback. Do not offer advice on the social dancefloor.

Personal Hygiene: Maintain good hygiene for the comfort of your dance partners.

Safe Dance Spaces: Be mindful of others’ space on the dance floor and avoid dips/lifts. Everyone is responsible for avoiding collisions.

Photography: Obtain verbal permission before taking photos.

Community Safety: The safety, inclusivity, and well-being of all participants are prioritised at events. Violations of the Code of Conduct can be reported in-person or by email and may result in suspension or banning from events.

Harassment: Any form of harassment, including unsolicited intimate behaviour, unwelcome romantic advances or flirtation, coercive language, unwanted physical touch, or other non-consensual behaviour, will not be tolerated. If you’re not sure, ask.

Responsibility to Look Out for One Another:
Look out for the well-being of others, offer help if needed, and speak up if something feels wrong.
